dc.description The Chenque I site is a hunter-gatherer’s cemetery located in the center-south area of La Pampa province (Argentina), whose range of use is 1050 to 290 years BP. It presents various forms of burial with an MNI of 236 and various body treatments. This represents an unusual diversity of mortuary practices during the final late Holocene in the Pampean region. However, there was only one secondary burial recorded, Burial N° 28, with evidence of thermal alteration in human osteological remains. In this paper we analyze the implications of the thermal alteration of the bodies through the analysis of the macroscopic bony characteristics and the archaeological context of the Burial N° 28. The results indicate that the process of thermo alteration of human remains was complex and intentional, and would have been carried out in different stages that include combustion in another space (other than burial), the collection of the remains, the assembly of the funeral bundle, their transfer and the final deposit at Chenque I site. en-US
dc.description El sitio Chenque I es un cementerio de cazadores-recolectores ubicado en el área centro-sur de la provincia de La Pampa (Argentina), cuyo rango de uso es 1050 a 290 años AP. El mismo presenta diversas modalidades de inhumación con un MNI de 236 y diversos tratamientos corporales, lo cual representa una inusitada diversidad de prácticas mortuorias durante el Holoceno tardío final en la región Pampeana. No obstante, allí se registró solo un entierro secundario múltiple, el Entierro N°28, con evidencia de alteración térmica en restos osteológicos humanos. En este trabajo se analizan las implicancias de la alteración térmica de los cuerpos a través del análisis de las características óseas macroscópicas y del contexto arqueológico del Entierro Nº 28. Los resultados indican que el proceso de termoalteración de restos humanos fue complejo e intencional, y habría sido realizado en distintas etapas que incluyen la combustión en otro espacio distinto al entierro, la recolección de los restos, el armado del fardo funerario, su traslado y la depositación final en el sitio Chenque I. es-ES
