dc.description The phytochemistry aspects, botanist uses and activity of the Menispermaceae family, standing out the useof the family in the medicine folkloric, the different types of present secondary metabolites in some fromthe species and their pharmacologic activity. One stands out in the family the presence of alkaloids, terpenoids,butenolides and flavonoids. dc.description Se presentan los aspectos fitoquímicos, usos etnobotánicos y actividad de la familia Menispermaceae, resaltando la utilización de la familia en la medicina folclórica, los diferentes tipos de metabolitos secundarios presentes en algunas de las especies y su actividad farmacológica. Se destaca en la familia la presencia de alcaloides, terpenoides, butenolidos y flavonoides. La familia Menispermaceae se encuentra asociada a nuestra flora colombiana por lo que se convierte en objeto de estudio necesario para adquirir el conocimiento de su quimiotaxonomía, la relación que presenta con el campo de la salud y el posible desarrollo como fuente de metabolitos secundarios con posible actividad farmacológica.
