dc.description One of the most important artisanal fisheries in northern Colombia is being developed in the deltaic estuarine zone of the Sinú River (ZDERS). Little is known about the impact on the resource caused by fishing gears and even less about those which are not allowed. In order to estimate the selectivity of gillnets or «trasmallos» in this artisanal fishery, selection parameters for five of the main commercial species, Mugil incilis, Eugerres plumieri, Prochilodus magdalenae, Ariopsis bonillai and Centropomus undecimalis, in 2001 and 2002, length frequency data for mesh sizes in the main landing sites were collected. A total of 16427 individuals were caught with mesh sizes from 5.08 to 10.16 cm stretched. It has been determined that gill nets exerts a negative pressure on the studied species when used with mesh sizes of 5.08 and 7.62 cm. Optimal catch length for each species, estimated with different mesh sizes, were found below the mean length of sexual maturity. The same effect was observed with those species reaching big sizes (C. undecimalis, A. bonillai and P. magdalenae) when fished with gill nets whose mesh size was 10.16 cm. Observed Selection factor values were low for E. plumieri and P. magdalenae, and high for M. incilis, A. bonillai and C. undecimalis. Differences in selection factor were attributed to the morphology of each species, tall (E. plumieri and P. magdalenae), oblong (M. incilis and A. bonillai) and long fishes (C. undecimalis). Minimum catch length and mesh sizes for each species are recommended. Some aspects on the sustainable management of the fish resource in the ZDERS fishery are discussed. en-US
dc.description En la zona deltaica estuarina del río Sinú (ZDERS) se desarrolla una de las pesquerías artesanales más importantes del norte de Colombia. En ésta poco se conoce del impacto que causan los artes de pesca sobre el recurso y mucho menos de aquellas que no son permitidas. Con el propósito de evaluar la selectividad del trasmallo sobre las principales especies comerciales, se estimaron los parámetros de selección de Mugil incilis, Eugerres plumieri, Prochilodus magdalenae, Ariopsis bonillai y Centropomus undecimalis. Entre 2001 y 2002 se hizo un seguimiento de las unidades económicas de pesca que operan con este arte para colectar datos de frecuencias de tallas discriminados por los cinco tamaños de malla (TM) más frecuentes (5.08, 6.35, 7.62, 8.89 y 10.16 cm). Con un total de 16427 individuos capturados, se determinó que el trasmallo ejerce una presión negativa sobre las especies estudiadas cuando se usan TM entre 5.08 y 7.62 cm. En general, las longitudes óptimas de captura estimadas para cada especie con diferentes TM estuvieron por debajo de la talla media de madurez de cada una. Se observó el mismo efecto en las especies que alcanzan grandes tallas (C. undecimalis, A. bonillai y P. magdalenae), cuando se operan trasmallos con TM de 10.16 cm. Se presentaron valores bajos en el factor de selección para E. plumieri y P. magdalena y altos para M. incilis, A. bonillai y C. undecimalis. Las diferencias en los valores de selección fueron atribuidas en gran parte a la morfología de cada especie, peces altos (E. plumieri y P. magdalena) oblongos (M. incilis y A. bonillai) y alargado (C. undecimalis). Se propone que el uso del trasmallo sea restringido durante las épocas reproductivas de las especies estudiadas. es-ES
