Relaciones sexuales en estudiantes adolescentes de Santa Marta, Colombia: factores asociados

dc.description Background: Sexual relationship (SR) prevalence changes according the sociocultural context. Among adolescents, RS has negative outcome like non-expected pregnancy and sexually transmissible diseases. Objective: To establish the prevalence of SR in adolescent student from three official schools from Santa Marta, Colombia, and exploring some associated factors. Method: A transversal study was designed. Adolescent students, aged from thirteen to seventeen year-old, answered an anonymous and self report survey that it asked for sociocultural characteristics, and others health risk behaviors like alcohol drinking. Results: Fi ve hundred thirty two stude nts were included. Mean age was 14.7 years (SD 1.31); 56.2% was girls, and mean education was 9.1 years (SD 1.53) (53% middle school and 47% high school). SR prevalence was 27.8% (CI 95% 24.0-31.6). Logistic regression showed association between SR and being male (OR 10.53, CI 95% 6.25-17.54), older (OR 1.90, CI 95% 1.57-2.30), last month smoking (OR 2.27, CI 95% 1.38-3.73), and last month alcohol consum e (OR 2.05, CI 95% 1.01-4.81). Conclusions: One of each four adolescent student have had SR. Experimented sexual adolescents are more likely being males, older, and reported alcohol drinking and cigarette smoking. en-US
dc.description Antecedentes: La prevalencia de relaciones sexuales (RS) en adolescentes varía de una región a otra. Las RS en adolescentes pueden tener consecuencias negativas como embarazos no planeados o enfermedades transmisibles sexualmente (ETS). Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de RS en estudiantes adolescentes de tres colegios oficiales de Santa Marta, Colombia, y explorar algunos factores asociados. Método: Se diseñó un estudio transversal. Adolescentes estudiantes entre 13 y 17 años de edad respondieron una encuesta autoadministrada anónima que indagaba características sociodemográficas, el comportamiento sexual y otras conductas de riesgo para la salud como el consumo de alcohol. Resultados: Se evaluaron 532 estudiantes. La edad promedio del grupo fue 14.7 años (DE 1.31), 562% eran mujeres y la escolaridad promedio fue 9.1 años (DE 1.53), 53% cursaban el nivel básico y 47% media vocacional. La prevalencia de RS fue 27.8% (IC 95% 24.0-31.6). El análisis multivariado mostró, después de controlar por otras variables, una asociación entre RS con el sexo masculino (OR 10.53, IC 95% 625-1754), tener una mayor edad (OR 1.90, IC95% 1.57-2.30), consumo de alcohol durante el último mes (OR 2.27, IC95% 1.38-3.73) y consumo de cigarrillo durante el último mes (OR 2.05, IC 95% 1.01-4.81). Conclusiones: Uno de cada cuatro adolescentes estudiantes ha tenido RS; la prevalencia de RS es mayor en los varones, se incrementa con la edad y en quienes consumen alcohol o fuman cigarrillo. es-ES
