dc.description The Plasmodium falciparum resistance to antimalarial drugs is one of the contributing factors which influence the increasing prevalence of malaria all over the world. The appearance of parasite strain resistance to chloroquine conducted to the development of new drugs to which the plasmodium had also created resistance. Now a days the combination pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine in addition toamodiaquine is so far the therapeutic form used when there is chloroquine resistance; however resistance to pirimethamine-sulfadoxine has been already reported in some endemic regions. The resurgence and fast dispead of this resistance is the main reason for the development and improvement of diferentstrategies for it s study so as the resistance determination In vivo evaluation of the parasite strain sensitivity to drugs and molecular test such as genetic polymorphism studies. But a low correlation was founded between theIn vivo prevalence and In vitro resistance to antimalarial drugs. Trends inmalaria on the relationship between parasite genotype and clinical outcome would alow the use molecular test to obtain information on treatment failure with antimalarial drugs in endemic zones. en-US
dc.description La resistencia del parasito Plasmodium falciparum a antimalaricos es uno de los factores contribuyentes al aumento de la prevalencia de la malaria en el mundo. La aparicion de cepas resistentes a la cloroquina, llevó al desarrollo de nuevos medicamentos a los que el parasito a logrado desarrollar resistencia. En la actualidad la combination pirimetamina- sulfadoxina mas amodiaquina, es la terapeutica utilizada cuando hay resistencia a cloroquina; sin embargo, la resistencia a la primera, ya se ha reportado en algunas regiones endemicas. El resurgimiento y rapida dispersion de la resistencia han motivado el desarrollo de diferentes estrategias para su estudio y deteccion temprana, tales como la determination de la resistencia In vivo, la evaluation In vitro de la sensibilidad del parasito a drogas antimalaricos y las pruebas moleculares, tales como el estudio de polimorfismos geneticos. Sin embar-go, se ha encontrado baja correlacion entre la prevalencia In vivo y la resistencia In vitro a los antimalaricos. Investigaciones recientes en malaria sobre las relaciones entre el genotipo del parasito y la clinica de la enfermedad permitirian el use de las pruebas moleculares para obtener informacion sobre fallas terapeuticas con antimalaricos en zonas endemicas.  es-ES
